State/Prov.: IA Occupation: freelance design writer Marital Status: Married Are you planning on coming to the REUNION EVENT? : No. We have a previous commitment. How many grandchildren do you have?: 0 Have you been married more than once? How many times? : Married in 1974 and still in love with my husband. Share a high school memory of a person, place or event? : Loved all the time spent in the journalism room while serving on the paper. Singing in Chorale and being in musical productions of Oklahoma and My Fair Lady were fun, too. Most of my junior high and high school life was devoted to chasing the Beatles (whom I finally tracked down in England the summer after high school graduation!) and doing all those celebrity interviews for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat and Prom magazine, so I must admit that my memories of that time are focused more on those things than on high school, per se. From Denise : 40 years? Yikes. We just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary, too. Yikes again. My husband, Ron Whitman, and I quit our jobs at the beginning of 2006 so we could move full-time to our lake home. I still do some freelance magazine writing, and Ron works every other week as a pharmacist. But our focus, after years of living and breathing our careers, is LIFE. And we're loving it. I had spent 8 years as a newspaper reporter and 25 years in executive editor positions at Better Homes and Gardens magazine and in our Books operation. I loved it all but was ready to give up living on airplanes and in hotel rooms in favor of sleeping in my own bed and sitting on my own dock! Our house in the Des Moines area is now our second home. I have no current pictures, so I just snapped this one while sitting at the computer. Hope you all have a fabulous reunion. I'm sending special love to all the "kids" I grew up with at Central School. Wish I could be there with you. Fond regards, Denise (Denny) Caringer |

State/Prov.: MO Occupation: I own a printing company in St. Louis Website: www.njc-ids.com Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 3 Are you planning on coming to the REUNION EVENT? : Yes How many grandchildren do you have?: 1 -Marlie, I know grandparents always say this about their grandchildren, but she really IS a genius. From our class, who do you still hang out with?: No one really. Every once and a while, I'll see someone at the grocery, etc. The reunion committee has been great for rekindling old friendships. Share a high school memory of a person, place or event? : I had a dilemma in high school. Through some sad, sick, biological twist of fate, I was always attracted to the tall, blond, leggy, cheerleader type girls. Unfortunately, I was never their type. The closest I ever got to getting their attention was having Marianne Maise mention me in one of her 40th reunion memories. Sigh. From Mike: After high school, I spent 1 ½ years at University of Missouri at Columbia, then I transferred and completed my degree in Sociology at Webster University in St. Louis. After graduating college, and realizing I was much much more mechanically inclined than academically inclined; I joined my father in a new business venture known as “quick printing”. My father died in 1980 and I purchased his half of the business from his estate. I married Arlene Gutterman (U City class of 1969) in 1972. I know this sounds sappy, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Arlene's confident, laid back way of being, proved to be a good compliment to my anxious, hyper personality. Married 35 years, we've raised 3 really great children. 19 months ago we were blessed with our first grandchild (see picture). I must admit, I enjoy being a grandfather more than I enjoyed being a father. Its a lot of fun. I love learning new things, and I am still intrigued by the constantly evolving technology of printing. My son Aaron (30 years old), is in business with me now, and that is another great thing that has happened to me. It been wonderful to experience my son as an adult and I take great pleasure in being his mentor. I've been expressing my personal commitment to work toward a more equitable society by being active on the board of KidSmart. KidSmart distributes free school supplies to children who can't afford to purchase them. As far as hobbies and other distractions, this hasn't changed since high school. I love to tinker with things. Mostly low tech projects where I have the opportunity to learn something new. For example, I recently taught myself to weld and machine metal. I honestly enjoy the processes more than the final result. I still fish local streams from time to time, but not as much as I used to. Right now, I'm confronting the question of what am I going to do with the next half of my life. At this point, all I can say is that the question seems more interesting to me now than the answer. |

State/Prov.: Kansas Occupation: sports writer, KC Star Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 2 Are you planning on coming to the REUNION EVENT? : Hopefully How many grandchildren do you have?: 0 Have you been married more than once? How many times? : No From our class, who do you still hang out with?: No one's in KC that I know of. Share a high school memory of a person, place or event? : This might sound crazy, but whenever I hear a Four Tops song or the chorus from "Louie, Louie" on the oldies station, it reminds me how remarkable it was that the Four Tops and Kingsmen actually performed at our high school and how memorable those concerts were. I love telling people about that. From Randy : Here's how I have spent the last 40 years: J-School at Mizzou; then worked for the newspaper in Memphis from 1972-79. That's where I met my Southern belle, Joan, who is from Little Rock. We married in Memphis, our two children were born there. |
